Western States 100 - The Original Ultra Trail Race

Before the trail boom - there was the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, the race that started it all. Held annually in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, the Western States 100 is recognised as the first 100-mile trail race in history. In 1977, the first edition of the Western States 100, only 14 runners started, and only one - Andy Gonzales - finished within the 24-hour time limit.

Qualify for the Western States: For 2027, The HOT 133Km Individual 2025 has been officially recognised as a qualifying race for the Western States. This means that runners who finish the race can take part in the Western States lottery(Organisation website here).

After 15:05:Afterthe time set for the barrier, the rider will not be able to continue.
